Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund

On January 12, 2010, the island of Haiti experienced a natural disaster, which caused a catastrophic loss of homes, resources, and lives.  Citizens of Haiti made a plea to the United States to act in the name of brotherhood.  Central Jersey College Prep Charter School decided to answer that call and develop a dress down fundraiser.  Students and staff gave a monetary donation in exchange for an opportunity to dress down on Thursday, January, 21, 2010.  The colors of the dress down were red, white, and blue, which are both represented in the Haitian and American flag.
The school’s original mission was to purchase a large quantity of water and link up with a larger organization to have the water shipped to Haiti.  However, after speaking with the Red Cross CJCPCS administration was informed that they were no longer accepting water and encouraged to send money instead.  The school was able to raise $1152.00 in two days.  A check will be delivered to the Central Jersey Red Cross in Princeton, New Jersey on Monday January 25, 2010.  The Red Cross will be distributing the funds as needed.
We would like to thank the school community including parents, for their support.  This was a successful event and it also helps the students understand humanitarianism and the impact they can have on the lives of others.
